As an American woman bullfighter—a rare conjunction of attributes—Bette Ford offers the dual perspective of a homegrown American and an outsider who earned respect within, and made her mark on, a Spanish tradition. She is arguably America’s most distinguished living bullfighter. She was the first woman to fight in the Plaza México, the world’s largest bullfighting arena and the center of the bullfighting world outside of Spain.
